Mass Communication Studies Help Us Connect to One Another

Media is around us at all times. We are constantly connected to it. Like almost every human being, I start my day by looking at my phone and scanning social media. Then I tend to get up and either turn the TV on or start playing my current playlist. Throughout the day, I go back to the different media forms to gather news, relax, check on my friends and family, and countless other things. But have we really thought about how media and mass communications are used to study the world?

Mass communications studies can help us understand one another. It can also help us tackle socio-economic struggles and social norms. But for this to happen, we all need to understand how mass communication studies are done. Using the communication science theory, the Pew Research Center was able to find out what creates a popular video on Youtube and how it affects viewers.

Another study that also used the communication science theory was a study about how Congress is using social media more now than ever. However, methods like the critical theory come into play when looking at studies that analyze social media activism and how many believe social media companies have too much influence on American politics.

Studies that looked solely at what was occurring used methods like the communications science theory. These studies wanted to know the reason why specific phenomena or results were happening. However, studies that used the normative theory were looking more into how media affects society's status quo and the influence of a dominating group.

All of these studies help us understand what others' outlooks are currently, which gives us the opportunity to be more connected. Mass communication studies provide us clarity on what other cultures and communities are experiencing through their media outlets. The more we understand one another, the more connected we become. The more connected we are, the better the world becomes. We should all be researching and learning more about current mass communication studies.
